History & atmosphere
Borgata opened in 2003 and instantly changed the face of Atlantic City, setting the tone for an era of modern mega-resorts in the style of the best Vegas hotels. Located in the Marina district, away from the old Boardwalk, it became the city's most profitable casino and its undisputed leader in attendance. Two golden glass towers house more than 2,700 rooms, a huge spa complex, dozens of restaurants from renowned chefs and one of the best poker rooms on the East Coast, hosting the prestigious WPT tournament series. The gaming floor is staggering in scale: thousands of slot machines, hundreds of tables and separate areas for baccarat and high rollers. Borgata is also famous for its nightlife — the Premier and The Pool by Day clubs draw guests from across the region. For many Americans it is a convenient alternative to Las Vegas, a couple of hours' drive from New York and Philadelphia. The resort set a standard that the whole city later strove to match.
