Land-based casino FAQ

How does a land-based casino differ from an online casino?

Beyond the obvious atmosphere, it comes down to regulation and the maths. Land-based halls are licensed by local authorities, minimum stakes are usually higher, and the payout of the machines tends to be lower than their online counterparts. In return, only the floor offers live tables with real dealers, stage shows and resort-grade dining.

Is there a dress code at casinos?

It depends on the venue. Classic European houses such as Monte Carlo call for an elegant look (a jacket in the evening), while American and Asian mega-resorts usually stop at smart casual. Check the exact requirements on each casino’s page.

What is the minimum age to enter a casino?

In most countries it is 18; in the United States and Macau it is 21. Almost everywhere you must show ID at the door, and some casinos charge tourists an entrance fee.

How was this selection put together?

We chose the world’s most historically significant and largest halls: architectural landmarks like the Casino de Monte-Carlo, floor-space record holders like the Venetian Macao, and the iconic resorts of Las Vegas. This is an encyclopedic guide, not advertising for the venues.
