Mohegan Sun opened in 1996 on the banks of the Thames River in Connecticut and quickly became the main rival of neighboring Foxwoods, sharing with it the laurels of New England's tribal-gaming capital. The resort is owned by the Mohegan tribe and built as a tribute to its culture: the interiors are designed around themes of the four seasons and the elements of nature, with waterfalls, glowing rock-columns and the famous 17-meter crystal dome Wombi Rock at the center of the Casino of the Sky hall.
