History & atmosphere
City of Dreams is the flagship integrated resort of Lawrence Ho's Melco Resorts on the Cotai Strip, opened in 2009. The complex brings together a casino, several hotels — including the futuristic Morpheus designed by Zaha Hadid with its lacy exoskeleton — and a famous entertainment cluster. The main pride is the Dancing Water Theatre, built specially for the show The House of Dancing Water: acrobats, divers and motorcyclists perform around a giant pool holding five times the volume of an Olympic one. City of Dreams' gaming rooms cater to a wide audience — from the mass-market slots segment to elite VIP salons with high baccarat limits. Here too are fashion boutiques, a club and fine-dining restaurants. City of Dreams became a symbol of how Macau is transforming from a purely gambling city into a world-class entertainment hub, rivalling Las Vegas in spectacle.
