History & atmosphere
WinStar World in the town of Thackerville, right on the Texas border, is the planet's largest casino by gaming floor area. The complex is owned by the Chickasaw Nation and opened in 2004, after which it was repeatedly expanded, turning into a city of entertainment in the middle of the prairie. Its signature feature is themed "plazas" that reproduce the façades of famous world cities: a visitor passes from "Paris" into "Rome", "Madrid", "Vienna", "Beijing" and "Cairo", each with its own architecture and atmosphere. Inside are over 8,500 slot machines, dozens of tables, a huge poker room and a horse-racing hall. The resort includes two hotel towers, a world-class golf course, a spa and the Global Event Center concert venue, where top-tier stars perform. Thanks to its proximity to Dallas, WinStar receives millions of guests from Texas, where casinos are banned. Its gigantic scale and "trip around the world" under one roof have made it a genuine landmark of the American South.
