History & atmosphere
Resorts World Genting is a legendary mountain resort, the only legal casino in Malaysia, built atop the Titiwangsa range at an altitude of about 1,800 metres. Founded by entrepreneur Lim Goh Tong, the complex opened in 1971 and turned a cool, misty mountain just an hour's drive from sweltering Kuala Lumpur into a year-round resort city in the clouds. Guests ascend via the Awana SkyWay, one of the world's longest cable-car lines, with panoramic cabins gliding over the jungle. At the top awaits a vast hotel complex (including one of the world's largest hotels by number of rooms), the Genting SkyWorlds theme park, shopping galleries, a concert arena and, of course, the casino, which by national law admits only non-Muslims. The gaming halls operate around the clock, and baccarat and slots draw visitors from across Southeast Asia. The cool climate, mist and high-altitude views make Genting a unique spot on the map of Asian resorts.
