History & atmosphere
SkyCity Auckland is New Zealand's largest entertainment complex, grown up at the foot of the famous Sky Tower in the very heart of Auckland. Opened in 1996, the casino operates around the clock and offers a full range of table games and slot machines across several levels. But the main attraction is the 328-metre Sky Tower itself, the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere. Its observation decks offer a panorama of the city and two harbours, while the brave can walk along the tower's outer edge in a harness (SkyWalk) or leap with a guided cable (SkyJump). The resort includes two hotels, among them the luxurious Horizon, a conference centre, a theatre and numerous restaurants, including the revolving Orbit at a height of 190 metres. SkyCity is not only a gaming venue but also Auckland's main tourist symbol, which even those indifferent to gambling ascend for the views.
