History & atmosphere
Casino Shangri La in Tsaghkadzor is part of an international chain run by the British group Storm International, which has been active in the gambling market since 1992. Under Armenian law, casinos are moved out of Yerevan and residential areas to specially permitted locations, and the picturesque mountain resort of Tsaghkadzor became one of them. The venue lies among coniferous forests at the foot of Mount Teghenis, an hour's drive from the capital, near the ski lifts and the medieval Kecharis monastery. The complex is linked to the business of Armenian magnate Gagik Tsarukyan: ownership is divided between his Multi Group and Storm International. Inside is the brand's signature standard: live tables with roulette, blackjack, poker and baccarat, modern slots and regular poker tournaments that draw players from various countries. The uniqueness of the place lies in the combination of a ski resort and gambling: by day guests ski or walk in the forests, and in the evening they descend to the gaming tables. For Armenia it is the flagship of legal gambling tourism outside the capital.
