History & atmosphere
The Star is Sydney's only casino and Australia's second-largest gaming complex, set in the scenic Darling Harbour district with views over the water and the city's skyscrapers. Opened in 1997 as Star City, the resort was transformed after a major renovation into a modern entertainment hub with two hotels, including the luxurious The Darling, the exclusive Astral Tower residences, a spa, the Marquee nightclub and dozens of restaurants, among them venues by famous Australian chefs. The casino operates around the clock and offers both international classics and the local game of Two-Up. The Star has traditionally attracted wealthy guests from Asia, for whom private baccarat salons have been set up. In recent years the complex has found itself at the centre of high-profile investigations into anti-money-laundering breaches. Nevertheless, it remains a notable fixture of Sydney's nightlife, with easy access to the waterfront and the monorail.
