History & atmosphere
Mandalay Bay opened in 1999 at the southern end of the Strip and embodied the image of a tropical resort in tones of gold and copper with a Southeast Asian flair. Its main pride is the Beach, an eleven-acre water park with a real sandy beach, a wave pool and a lazy river. Another attraction is the Shark Reef aquarium, home to sharks, rays, crocodiles and thousands of marine creatures. The gaming floor is spacious and bright, with high-limit rooms. The resort is known for its vast convention center, concert venues and the Michelob Ultra Arena, as well as a restaurant atop the THEhotel tower, now Delano. Here a luxury Four Seasons hotel and the high-end segment coexist under one roof. Mandalay Bay attracts those who want to combine gambling with a genuine beach getaway and family entertainment. It is an island resort at the edge of the glittering Las Vegas boulevard.
