Gambling is prohibited in Bangladesh. The Gambling Prevention Act, 2026 took effect on 1 July 2026, replacing the colonial Public Gambling Act of 1867. The new law explicitly covers online gambling, betting and bookmaking, virtual casinos and match-fixing, as well as advertising and affiliate marketing for gambling sites; it separately addresses settlements through mobile financial services and cryptocurrency. Penalties reach seven years in prison for running online betting operations and up to ten years for offences linked to money laundering. Lotteries run by state-authorised bodies are the sole exception. The telecoms regulator BTRC blocks gambling websites. The currency is the Bangladeshi taka, and the mobile wallets bKash and Nagad are widely used. No legal online casino market exists in the country, and taking part in one carries legal risk.
