Casinos in Uganda: 2026 guide
Uganda operates under the Lotteries and Gaming Act 2016, with a single regulator: the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB). The Board licenses lotteries, casinos, betting and gaming operations across both retail outlets and remote channels, and publishes an annual list of current licensees. Online sports betting and online casino play are permitted with a licence of the appropriate type; operators must run customer identification, anti-money-laundering measures and responsible gambling tools. Land-based casinos are legal. The currency is the Ugandan shilling, and payments run mainly through MTN MoMo and Airtel Money mobile money. From 1 July 2026 a unified tax on gaming revenue applies together with a 15% withholding tax on net winnings. Players should check an operator against the NLGRB list of licensees.
